Q. Why LED's?

LED Lighting uses 85% less electricity than typical incandescent and fluorescent light sources. LED’s provide us with the most efficient way to save energy and conserve our natural resources. The light produced from an LED is an even spectrum and can last beyond ten years (30,000 – 60,000 hours or more)

 

Q. What does LED mean simply? 

LED = Light emitting diode, which are “solid-state lighting” components. Each individual LED consists of a semiconductor diode that emits light when a voltage is applied to it.

 

Q. Does turning LED lights on and off reduce lifetime?

No. Unlike incandescent and fluorescent lighting which will fail sooner when switched on or off more often, LED lighting is unaffected by how often it is switched on or off.

 

Q. Do LED lights product UV and/or IR emissions or contain mercury? 

No. LED Lighting Products typically produce virtually no light in the Ultraviolet (UV) or Infrared (IR) spectrums. LED bulbs do not contain mercury. They can actually be recycled as they do not contain hazardous substances and are manufactured without hazardous substances.

 

Q. Can LED lights be dimmed?

Yes, most of our range of LED lights can be dimmed – refer to the dimmer controller 

 

Q. Do the LED Diodes need to be replaced? 

An LED diode does not “burn out” like a conventional lamp, so individual diodes do not need to be replaced. 

 

Q. Do LED's overheat?

LED’s consume significantly less energy and operate at lower temperatures than typical incandescent bulbs. Most of the energy emitted from an incandescent bulb is converted into heat instead of light which is why you’ll burn yourself if you try to touch it once it’s turned on. In many cases you can actually feel the temperature difference just by being near the light.

The beam of light source from an LED is cool however waste heat is produced within the LED itself during the conversation of electricity into light.

The waste heat must be properly removed from the light to maximize fixture performance and to avoid damage to the LED’s. This is why all LED Strip light options are recommended to be used in conjunction with an LED Profile.

The LED Profiles are well designed lighting fixtures which act as heat sinks to draw heat away from the LED’s and dissipate into the air surrounding the profile thus prolonging the life of the LED chips.

 

Q. Is LED a different type of light?

Yes. LED Light is said to be a safer, healthier light. Because LED’s do not produce any form of ultraviolet radiation which causes colour fading in art & fabric such as carpet fading etc. With LED Lights there is no buzzing or flickering
